Professor Jeffrey Zajac
Prof Jeffrey Zajac, Endocrinologist in Ivanhoe and Vermont South, VIC, Australia.
Professor Jeffrey Zajac has 35 years experience in clinical endocrinology. He is the Director of the Department of Endocrinology at the Austin Hospital and Head of Medicine at Austin Health. He is a past president of the Endocrine Society of Australia. He trained at the Austin and Repatriation Hospitals, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He works full time at the Austin and is currently our managing partner.

Professor Joseph Proietto

Prof Joseph Proietto, Endocrinologist in Ivanhoe and Vermont South, VIC, Australia.
Joseph Proietto is Professor Emeritus at the University of Melbourne in the Department of Medicine Austin Health and an Endocrinologist specialising in Diabetes and Obesity. He established the first obesity clinic in Victoria at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and is now Head of the Weight control clinic at Austin Health.
Professor Proietto was the inaugural Sir Edward Dunlop Medical Research Foundation, Professor of Medicine, and Head of the Metabolic Disorders Research Group in the Department of Medicine, Austin Health. He is currently on the executive of World Obesity and is Chair of the Clinical Care Committee.
Professor Proietto has published over 200 articles and several book chapters on obesity and diabetes. He is the Author of Body Weight Regulation: Essential Knowledge to lose weight and keep it off

Dr Katherine Bate
Dr Katherine Bate, Endocrinologist in Ivanhoe and Vermont South, VIC, Australia.
Dr Katherine Bate graduated with MBChB from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1991. She completed her specialist qualification as an endocrinologist and general physician in 1998, before undertaking a PhD studying the basic mechanisms contributing to the development of Type 2 diabetes.
Dr Bate works at three public hospitals (Austin Health, Mercy Health and the Royal Melbourne Hospital) as an endocrinologist, general physician and obstetric physician. She also teaches medical students and has an honorary position at the University of Melbourne. She is a local examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
In her private practice at the Endocrine Specialist Centre, Dr Bate welcomes referrals for a wide range of endocrine issues including:

Dr Ingrid Bretherton

Dr Ingrid Bretherton, Endocrinologist in Ivanhoe, VIC, Australia.
Dr Bretherton is a Consultant Endocrinologist at Austin Health, Northern Health and works in private practice at the Endocrine Specialist Centre.
She has an interest in all aspects of general endocrinology and diabetes and has a special interest in trans and gender diverse health care and treating endocrine and diabetes issues during pregnancy.
Dr Bretherton is also a medical researcher at The University of Melbourne (Department of Medicine, Austin Health). She is currently investigating the effects of hormone therapy on bone health in trans and gender diverse individuals.

Dr Adam Hedley
Dr Adam Hedley, Nephrologist in Ivanhoe, VIC, Australia.
Dr Adam Hedley is a Nephrologist specialising in Renal Medicine in IVANHOE, Melbourne, Australia.

Dr Adam Hedley is a Nephrologist practising in Melbourne's north-east. He has a special interest in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), including all management options for CKD (dialysis and transplantation), together with its associated complications, in particular of cardiovascular disease and renal hypertension.
After graduating from The University of Melbourne in 1996, Adam undertook Physician training at St.Vincent's Hospital before completing his Nephrology training at The Royal Melbourne and Austin Hospitals in 2004. He has undertaken further research; obtaining his PhD from The University of Melbourne, investigating the heightened cardio-vascular disease risk experienced by patients with CKD.
Adam currently has appointments at both Austin and Northern Health as a Consultant Nephrologist.
He is involved in the management of patients with CKD (including those on dialysis and with kidney transplants) as well as resistant hypertension. Adam is actively involved in research (hypertension in the obese and cardio-vascular disease in CKD patients) as well as the education and mentorship of future Nephrologists.

Dr David Hoffman
Dr David Hoffman, Endocrinologist in Vermont South, VIC, Australia.
David Hoffman trained in Endocrinology the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, and then did a PhD in pituitary disorders and metabolism at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research which was completed in 2002. He has since worked in Endocrine private practice in Sydney; and then moved to Melbourne in 2017 where he works with the Endocrine Specialist Centre.

Dr Clement Lo
Dr Clement Lo, Endocrinologist in Vermont South, VIC, Australia.
Dr Clement Lo is a general Endocrinologist based at Monash Health where he provides both inpatient and outpatient care to patients with diabetes and endocrine issues. At Monash Health, he helped establish the Diabetes and Kidney Service where he is the Diabetes clinical lead. He also manages patients with obesity as a member of the Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism Unit. In addition, he is a research fellow at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, and sits on the Medical, Educational and Scientific Advisory Committee for Diabetes Australia.
Dr Lo is a graduate of the University of Melbourne and trained in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Obesity at Austin Health and Monash Health prior to completing a PhD concerning health-care improvement for Diabetes and Kidney Disease at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University.
He is committed to quality patient-centred medical care, and is involved in both doctor and patient education.

Dr Torkamani, Endocrinologist in Vermont South, VIC, Australia.
Dr Niloufar Torkamani completed her training in Endocrinology and General Medicine at Royal Melbourne hospital and Austin health. She is passionate about research and completed her PhD in 2016 (University of Melbourne). She has published in various high impact scientific journals. She is currently an honorary research fellow at the University of Melbourne, where she supervises and mentors multiple PhD candidates, physician trainees and medical students. Her research interests include women's health, andrology, PCOS and PCOS related complications, weight loss and diabetes.

She is the recipient of various awards including the Melbourne International Fee Remitting Scholarship (MIFRS) (University of Melbourne), Melbourne International Research Scholarship (University of Melbourne), John Hayden Scholarship (University of Melbourne), Alwyn Stewart Memorial Trust Fund Scholarship (University of Melbourne), World Hair Research Conference (WHRC ) travel grant.

Dr Torkamani consults on a range of issues including Women's and men's health, weight loss, PCOS, diabetes mellitus, thyroid disease, pituitary and adrenal disorders, osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease, transgender health and other endocrine disorders. Dr Torkamani is also fluent in Persian (Farsi) and is comfortable to consult patients of all backgrounds.

Dr Sarah Pattison
Dr Sarah Pattison, Endocrinologist in Ivanhoe, VIC, Australia.
Dr Sarah Pattison completed her Physicians Training at The Alfred Hospital after graduating with first class honours from Monash University in 2002. Her specialist training in Endocrinology was at The Austin and Box Hill Hospitals, where she gained broad experience in the management of the full range of endocrine disorders. As well as private practice, Dr Pattison also holds a staff position in Diabetes management at The Austin Hospital.

Dr Nicholas Russell

Dr Nicholas Russell, Endocrinologist in Ivanhoe, VIC, Australia.
Dr Nicholas Russell is dual-trained as a specialist in Endocrinology and specialist in General & Acute Care Medicine. He has sessional appointments in Endocrinology and General Medicine at Austin Health, is a visiting medical officer at Warringal Private Hospital, and runs an andrology clinic at the Australian Prostate Centre. He is completing a PhD in andrology (mens health) at the University of Melbourne and also has research interests in sodium disorders, particularly hyponatraemia.
Nick has broad expertise in all areas of endocrinology including andrology, electrolyte disorders, hypertension, and conditions of the pituitary, adrenal, and thyroid glands. He is interested in all aspects of obesity and metabolism including diabetes.
Nick is a member of the Endocrine Society of Australia, the US Endocrine Society, the Australian Diabetes Society, and The Australian Professional Association for Trans Health (AusPATH). He has previously sat on the Victorian State Committee of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and on the RACP College Council.

Dr Geetha Theverkalam
Dr Geetha Theverkalam, Endocrinologist in Ivanhoe, VIC, Australia.
Dr Geetha Theverkalam completed her MBBS from University of Calicut, India. Following this she undertook Physician training at the Monash Medical Centre and Endocrinology training at Eastern Health, Austin and St Vincents Hospital. She is currently a Consultant Endocrinologist at St Vincents Hospital and Eastern Health. Dr Geetha is also working towards completing her PhD on Diabetes related complications from University of Melbourne. She is involved in teaching medical students and endocrinology trainees at St Vincents Hospital and is a lecturer at the University of Melbourne.

Dr Aye Tint

Dr Aye Tint, Endocrinologist in Ivanhoe, VIC, Australia.
Dr Aye Nyein Tint is a consultant Endocrinologist at the Austin Health. She has a great interest in treating diabetes and its complications. Her special interest is in taking care of people with diabetic foot related complications and prevention of lower extremity amputation. She is also appointed as a lead endocrinologist for multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Service at the Austin Hospital.
