Dr Benjamin Au

Dr Au is a specialist ophthalmologist in Australia & Singapore with expertise in performing complex cataract & laser refractive surgery. He completed a Complex Cataract fellowship at The Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital (RVEEH). He has refined the 'Double Chop' technique under topical anaesthesia allowing patients a rapid visual recovery. Dr Au's extensive experience in managing difficult cataracts & complications assures the best possible management & outcome even in unforeseen circumstances.

Dr Au is also offers laser refractive surgery (LASIK, SMILE & PRK) for myopia/hyperopia management. He is one of a handful of surgeons within Australia to be able to offer PRESBYOND laser for prebyopia management. Dr Au's laser refractive surgery is performed exclusively at his 'Eye Laser Specialists' practice.

Dr Au has diverse global experience across a broad range of ophthalmic specialties and is happy to manage most general ophthalmic conditions. Originally from Toronto, Canada, he completed his undergraduate training in the UK at St George's, University of London (formerly known at St George's Hospital). He then moved to Singapore and completed his ACGME-I accredited ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He then pursued a fellowship in Complex Cataracts at RVEEH and concurrently obtained his FRANZCO accreditation. Dr Au has also undertaken observerships in the United States, Canada and Singapore with various eminent ophthalmologists.

Dr Au is currently the Clinical Lead of the Acute Ophthalmology Service at RVEEH and Consultant at Yarra Ranges Health. His role includes being a Cataract Surgical Supervisor for trainee registrars and a member of the Victorian RANZCO Qualifications and Education Committee.
