Dr Kathryn Austin is an energetic, passionate and empathetic Obstetrician with subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine. Kathryn enjoys looking after women with both low risk and high risk pregnancies and welcomes referrals for low or high risk patients. She holds the highest level of obstetric subspecialty qualification through her MFM certification so regardless of any changes in pregnancy she will be able to navigate the spectrum of pregnancy care. She is rarely seen without a smile on her face.

Kathryn holds a private appointment as at North Shore Private Hospital as a VMO as well as a public appointment at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) where she is a senior clinician within the obstetric clinic for medical complications of pregnancy. She was involved with establishing the preconception planning service at the Royal Hospital for Women (RHW).

Prior to studying medicine, Kathryn was a Pharmacist.  These skills were vital to her work at Mothersafe NSW, where she helped to provide a comprehensive counselling service about the safety of medications during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.  Kathryn obtained her medical degree at the University of Newcastle, and undertook her specialist training at the RHW and then subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine at RNSH and RHW.

Kathryn is a well-loved, and well-connected doctor. She is a big-picture thinker and has a passion for making positive change to improve healthcare with a focus on maternal and child health. She has recently sat on the Board of the Gidget Foundation, providing support to those experiencing perinatal depression and anxiety. She is a non-executive director of the AMA (NSW) and the immediate past president of AMA NSW. Dr Austin has been admitted to the AMA Federal Role of fellows and awarded the prestigious AMA NSW Presidents Award for outstanding service to the medical profession and health and womens health leadership which she balanced with an active clinical role as a frontline obstetrician throughout her tenure.

Always a caring, open doctor who endeavours to empower women during their pregnancy journey, Kathryns desire to become a doctor and care for others has been a life-long pursuit.

Kathryn enjoys swimming, skiing, cooking and running.  She loves good food and entertaining. Her husband and two children are her greatest joy in life.
