Dr Philip Rome qualified in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Sydney with first class honours in 1999. His postgraduate intensive academic and advanced plastic and reconstructive surgical training was based in several major Sydney teaching hospitals, including Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA), Concord Repatriation General Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Westmead Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital. After completing four years of specialty surgery training by 2006 he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. He then undertook an additional fellowship in Europe to further broaden his surgical experience in microsurgery and supramicrosurgery at the internationally renowned Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, Spain.
Dr Rome holds visiting surgical officer appointments at RPA and Concord Hospitals in Sydney. At RPA he is the supervisor of plastic and reconstructive surgery training for surgeons working towards qualifications in this specialty. Currently he also operates at Hunters Hill Private Hospital, North Shore Specialist Day Surgery, Sydney Day Surgery and North Shore Private Hospital.
Appointed by his peers, in 2011 and 2012 he was the Hon. Secretary of the NSW Chapter of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Member of The Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Member of the NSW Hand Surgery Association and a Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr Rome is committed to excellence in his profession and continually seeks to broaden his surgical expertise. He has contributed to academic papers on a range of surgical topics, regularly attends conferences both within Australia and internationally to maintain his understanding of new developments in surgery and to maintain links and share experiences with other leaders in his areas of expertise. Since 2008 he has been a contributing member of an international expert panel on wound therapy (NPWT Experts). Dr Rome is an active and supportive mentor to younger surgeons at the Registrar stage of their training.
