about Michael B Johnson

Michael B Johnson is a specialist in the treatment of Scoliosis and Spine Deformity, Club-foot (Ponseti treatment), Developmental Hip Dysplasia and Neuromuscular diseases in children.

Michael graduated from Monash University in 1991 and completed Orthopaedic Training at many of Victorias leading hospitals (Alfred, Royal Melbourne, Monash Medical Centre, Austin, Box Hill and Ballarat).

With Fellowships at Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada (2002-2003) and Shriners Hospital for Children in Oregon, USA (2001-2002), Michael was able to pursue further training in Specialist Paediatric Orthopaedics. Michael was appointed to the Royal Childrens hospital as a Consultant Surgeon in 2003, where he is now Head of Orthopaedics (2015 to present).

Michael has teaching roles with Medical Students through the University of Melbourne, Physiotherapists (Specialty Certificate in Paediatric Orthopaedics for Physiotherapists, Melbourne University) and also in training orthopaedic surgeons.

Michaels current research interests are scoliosis in the setting of Cerebral Palsy, early-onset Spinal Deformity treatment, and the treatment of Cervical Spine injuries in children. He has also introduced a promising new technique for the management of neuromuscular scoliosis surgery to Australia; as a result of collaboration with his colleague Dr Lotfi Miladi from Paris, France.
